'THE VENUE' THEATRE
(Leicester Square)
HISTORY
Although 'The Venue' is the West End's newest theatre, it has a long and important history. Having been destroyed by a bomb during World War II, it was rebuilt as 'Notre Dame Hall' in 1953 becoming the focal point of all social activities for the French population in London. During the 1970's 'The Venue' was host to a new sound - 'punk music'. The Sex Pistols, Blondie, The Dammed and The Clash all learnt their trade here. In the 80's and 90's Ballroom and Latin-American dancing were re-established by 'Cafe Society Dancing'. The popularity, and uses of 'The Venue' increased under our ownership in 2000. Performances by Craig David, Sugababes,Simple minds and Basement Jaxx, as well as fashion shows, product launches and auditions for all the major West End shows have taken place here. Converted to a theatre in 2002, 'The Venue' was the location for Boy George's Olivier Award winning musical 'Taboo'. It was followed by the amazing success (and Royal Command performance) of 'Round the Horne....Revisited' and "Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens" starring Faye Tozer from Steps. 'The Venue' is the place to be for auditions and rehearsals for most West End productions including, 'We Will Rock You', 'Sleeping Beauty', 'The Women in White', 'Notre Dame de Paris', 'Starlight Express' and 'The King and I'. COMING SOON - "Side by Side"
It recently hosted the new West End hit "Pete and Dud Come Again ".
